GENRES

Being alternative lifestyle types, we first began designing for the market we know - PUNK. With the scale of the Government cock ups and corruption that followed, that soon evolved into PUNK & POLITICS. Social comment if you will, or old school punk rock anarchism. Never trusted authority and never will.

From there, the next logical step was to open the door to our darker side, and create designs for the HORROR & GOTH desciples.

But why stop there? BIKERS came next, shortly followed by PETROLHEADS.

"What about women's t-shirts?" said my wife. And so with her help, the first batch of MANDALA designs and BOHO themes were explored - alongside the obvious alcohol related ideas. Hic.

And so the first Deadstar sub stores were opened. The main page on Teespring was growing so fast it was obvious that finding certain designs would become like searching for a needle in a proverbial haystack. A separate store for each genre meant that we were able to provide a URL to suit the customers interests.

Over the following months we added beautiful landscapes and motivationals in the INSPIRATIONAL store, spiral inspired artwork in the VORTEX VAULT, pirates, knights, vikings, ninjas and other warriors in the CONQUEST COLLECTION, ancd then a SLOGAN store, a MUSICIANS store, a SURF SHACK, one specialising in DEADSTAR BRANDED logos and signature pieces, and finally stores for ANIMAL lovers and SPORTS lovers.

The future to us is an opportunity to continue to design in any vein that inspires us (and hopefully you), and to widen the Deadstar family of garment owners!

Where to now? ....

TEESPRING.COM was a good start, a place to release design ideas to the World and guage interest. It also opened up exposure and customers in the USA. But it is a fulfilment business - they print the piece and ship to the buyer, and thus I couldn't check quality of workmanship first. The profit was also small.

A REDBUBBLE.COM store was opened too, but this was the same business model with little control by us, but was worth doing as the occasional person stumbling across a design that they wanted to purchase from us enabled our first international sales to The USA, Germany, Luxemburg, Australia and the Netherlands.

But honestly, from the background I come from, (in garment printing) - I wanted to control the quality of print myself, ensuring that Deadstar Clothing would always give the customer something that we could be proud of. Something to set us apart from other online clothing brands. We could also take pride in a very speedy turnaround, affordable pricing, fast dispatch and excellent customer service. In my experience these are the things that result in customers returning time and time again.

Leaving Teespring and Redbubble running, I embarked upon a mission to get some titles printed up, and hold actual physical stock here with us at Deadstar HQ. Some I printed myself, and some I produced with the help of a trusted print shop, using exactly the same equipent that I had used and rated highly.As stock grew, those titles were added to selling platforms ETSY, and EBAY.

Finally - the customer experience was now in our hands! And since that day, we have indeed seen the same clients returning regularly!
